Great experience! Tried their new tele-health system and it was spot on. Better experience than my previous in-person doctor at another local place. My prescription for glasses and contacts was perfect. They had both ready 2days later! The staff took their time to teach me about my eyes- definitely referring my friends and family here!

No. A contact lens evaluation is separate from a regular eye exam because it includes additional fitting, prescription, and comfort checks specific to contact lenses. The cost is $150 for established contact lens wearers and $200 for first-time wearers. New wearer pricing includes training on how to safely insert and remove lenses, plus follow-up visits.
-
Contact lens evaluations are priced separately from standard eye exams. Patients who have worn contact lenses before are charged $150. New contact lens patients are charged $200, which includes hands-on insertion and removal instruction, as well as follow-up visits to help ensure a comfortable, healthy fit.

Yes. Fritz & Hawley Guild Opticians offers professional eye exams for glasses and contact lenses at our New Haven and Hamden locations. Contact lens exams and evaluations help determine the right prescription, lens type, fit, and wearing plan for your eyes.
-
Yes. If you need a new or updated contact lens prescription, you can schedule an eye exam and contact lens evaluation at our New Haven or Hamden location. A contact lens prescription requires more than a glasses prescription because contacts sit directly on the eye and must be evaluated for fit, comfort, and vision performance.
-
Yes. A contact lens prescription is different from a glasses prescription. Contact lens prescriptions may include details such as lens brand, base curve, diameter, lens type, and replacement schedule. Even if you already have a current glasses prescription, you may still need a contact lens evaluation before ordering contacts.
-
A spherical contact lens fit is commonly used for patients who need standard vision correction for nearsightedness or farsightedness without astigmatism correction. During your evaluation, our team can help determine whether spherical contacts are appropriate for your prescription, eye shape, and lifestyle.
-
Yes. Fritz & Hawley Guild Opticians offers toric contact lens evaluations for patients with astigmatism. Toric contacts require careful fitting because the lens must sit properly on the eye to provide stable, clear vision. Our team can evaluate how the lenses fit, move, and perform before helping you order the right contacts.
-
Yes. Monovision contact lenses may be an option for patients who need help seeing clearly at both distance and near ranges. With monovision, one eye is typically corrected for distance while the other is corrected for near vision. Our team can help evaluate whether this approach feels comfortable and practical for your vision needs.
-
Yes. Fritz & Hawley Guild Opticians offers multifocal contact lens evaluations for patients who need clear vision at multiple distances. Multifocal contacts may be helpful if you want to reduce dependence on reading glasses, bifocals, or progressive eyeglasses in certain daily situations.
-
Yes. Fritz & Hawley Guild Opticians provides contact lens evaluations for complex fits. This may include patients with higher prescriptions, astigmatism, multifocal needs, previous contact lens discomfort, dry eye concerns, or prescriptions that have been difficult to fit elsewhere.
-
Yes. Fritz & Hawley Guild Opticians offers colored contact lenses when available. Availability may be limited based on your prescription and what manufacturers currently supply, so our team can review your options during your contact lens evaluation.

Yes. Contact lens exams are typically HSA/FSA eligible at Fritz & Hawley Guild Opticians. If you have a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account, you may be able to use those funds toward your eye exam or other eligible vision care expenses.
-
Yes. If you are new to contact lenses, our team can help you understand the process, schedule the right exam, and choose lenses that fit your prescription, comfort needs, and lifestyle. Contact lenses take a little practice, but professional guidance can make the transition much easier.
-
Contact lenses can be a good option if you want clear vision without wearing glasses all the time. Many people choose contacts for sports, fitness, travel, special events, outdoor activities, or everyday convenience. Contacts can also be helpful if you prefer having an alternative to glasses.
-
Yes. Many patients use both glasses and contact lenses. Contacts may be convenient during the day, while glasses are useful in the evening, during screen time, when your eyes feel tired, or when you want to give your eyes a break. Having both options gives you more flexibility.
-
The right contact lenses depend on your prescription, eye shape, tear film, comfort needs, wearing schedule, lifestyle, and whether you need a spherical, toric, monovision, multifocal, or complex contact lens fit. Your eye exam and contact lens evaluation help determine which options are appropriate for your eyes.
-
Fritz & Hawley Guild Opticians can help you explore contact lens options based on your prescription and exam results, including daily disposable lenses when appropriate. Daily contacts are popular because they are convenient, fresh each day, and do not require the same cleaning routine as reusable lenses.
-
Some patients with dry eyes can still wear contact lenses comfortably, but it depends on the severity of dryness, lens material, wearing schedule, and overall eye health. If dryness has made contacts uncomfortable in the past, an updated exam and contact lens evaluation can help determine whether a different lens type or wearing routine may work better.
-
Contact lenses are safe for many patients when they are properly prescribed, fitted, cleaned, stored, and replaced as directed. It is important to follow your recommended wearing schedule, avoid sleeping in contacts unless approved by your eye care provider, and never use water to clean or store lenses.
-
Your replacement schedule depends on the type of contact lenses prescribed. Some lenses are replaced daily, while others may be replaced every two weeks or monthly. Following the recommended replacement schedule helps protect comfort, clarity, and eye health.
-
You should not sleep in contact lenses unless your eye care provider has specifically told you that your lenses are approved for overnight wear. Sleeping in contacts can increase the risk of irritation, infection, and other eye health concerns.
-
Contact lens discomfort can happen for several reasons, including dryness, allergies, lens deposits, an outdated prescription, poor fit, overwear, or using the wrong lens type for your eyes. If your contacts feel uncomfortable, it is a good idea to schedule an eye exam or contact lens evaluation instead of continuing to wear lenses that irritate your eyes.
-
Yes. Many people wear contact lenses for sports because contacts provide clear vision without frames getting in the way. Contacts can be especially helpful for activities where glasses may slip, fog, or interfere with protective gear.
-
Yes. Even if you wear contacts most of the time, it is smart to have a reliable pair of prescription glasses. Glasses give your eyes a break and provide a backup option if your contacts are lost, damaged, uncomfortable, or not recommended during an eye irritation or infection.
-
You can schedule an eye exam at Fritz & Hawley Guild Opticians in either Hamden or New Haven. Our team can help you schedule the right appointment, complete your contact lens evaluation, and order contacts based on your prescription and lens needs.
